San Jose Buddhist Tournament 2020 results

On Sunday DeLeon Judo Club had 10 students compete in the San Jose Buddhist Tournament.  The tournament drew over 500 competitors from all over California and beyond.
Our Club had 11 competitors however only 10 competed because Zach Babel had to drop out due to an injury from wrestling.  We had 3 first place 3 second place and 1 third place winner.
Mila competed first.  This was one of her first competition at this level in a major tournament.  She went undefeated defeating her opponents winning all with Ippon.  She took 1st Place.
Reagan, a seasoned competitor at a very young age who has placed in every tournament she has competed but for the first time did not place.  Competing in the orange belt division she faced many tough competitors. She competed very well and made our club proud.
Jett, went undefeated getting Ippon in each match.  Like many times when he competes he defeats his opponent within seconds, and today it was the same as he defeated one of his opponent in a few seconds. Although his final match his opponent was very tough, went all 2 minutes and won by a Wazari. He took 1st Place.
Noemi won her first match by Osaekome, lost her second match, but went on to win her third match coming in 2nd Place.
Kai,  One of our Best competitors today met some tough competitors winning his first match, but was defeated the next  two matches and so he did not place.
Miako also had a tough group of competitors and unfortunately did not place, but not without giving her best.  She is a tough competitor always trying her best.  She had some really nice taitoshi but was unable to execute them.
Sakiko was put into an 17 to 30 year old division.  She went undefeated but in her final match she was called for “head diving” and lost her match.  Many watching felt it was not a good call.  She came in 2nd place.
Nozomi was also put into a senior division with adults.  This was her first competition since coming back to Judo just a few months ago, and her first competition in almost 4 years.  She did very well considering she had not have much practice in competition winning 2 of her matches coming in 2nd Place.
Andy, Reagan’s father fought in the Senior Division against several Brown belt. At the end he was tied for 2nd place but because of some point system based on experience, age, and other factors he ended up in 3rd Place.
Chris competed in 2 division.  First in the Black Belt division a double elimination division he lost his first two matches so he was eliminated.  In the senior division he went undefeated winning all of his matches coming in 1st Place. Thanks to the assistants instructors Brenton, Carl, and Diane for coaching our students on Sunday.
